This was a fun and original take on Charles Perrault's tale. I did enjoy the first half of the book more than the second half, which contained plot holes big enough to drive a truck through, and some loose ends I would have loved to see resolved. All in all though, a cute and fun read.A clean middle school book for those who are interested in a little fantasy. 12 yr old Cat has just arrived at her dad's house to live for 3 months. Normally she just spends a week here and there with him but her mother, an astronaut, was assigned to a last minute space flight and she has no where else to go. Portland isn't too bad. I really enjoyed this over-the-top reworking of an old fairy tale. I found the characters fun and believable, the set-up enjoyable, and the payoff delightful. I loved that it's set in my town, and I dug the Great Aunt a lot. There's a tiny Betsy-Tacy nod embedded in this book, and it made me laugh out loud.
